Case Study: International Manganese Institute
| The International Manganese Institute (IMnI) represents Manganese producers, traders and research organisations worldwide. Its aim is to promote and support the development and use of the element manganese, facilitate the exchange and circulation of information, and encourage co-operation within the industry by providing its leaders with appropriate decision-making tools and an open forum to discuss issues of common concern. Challenges:The IMnI wanted to improve online communications to its global membership and recognised the need to raise its profile in front of the public at large. To achieve this goal, the IMnI required some elements of its website - news, library, and directory - to be easily and rapidly updated by its staff. Furthermore, the Institute had to make available in a secure environment commercially sensitive information accessible to only specific membership categories. The Solution:Intendance delivered an easy-to-use web application enabling the IMnI independently to update news and handle archive and directory data. Intendance provided a secure password protected area (extranet) with unique member passwords to ensure that only specific, authorised information is available to a predefined category of members. Benefits:The International Manganese Institute is now able easily to edit, publish and distribute data to members rapidly and cost-effectively. Non-technical staff can easily update sections of the website with minimal training. Members can access the institute archive, market data and industry news 24/7. | Website: www.manganese.org Sector: Business Trade Associations Type: Membership-based organisation Solution implemented: website and extranet with different level of accessibility according to membership category, easy-to-use content and document management tools "Thanks to Intendance, IMnI has been able to improve communications with its international membership, while upgrading its profile to the public at large". - Secretary General, International Manganese Institute
